Wither The Bold And Big Talk From MCA And Gerakan

The ISA today is not used for the intended purpose of fighting the communists but to sustain the life line of umno/bn. It is very clearly shown these last two months how the ISA was used to detain blogger, journalist, MP and activist not that they are a threat to the country security and neither are they communists but a thorn in the flesh of the ruling government.

An opposition-initiated petition calling for a debate on the Internal Security Act (ISA) in the Dewan Rakyat when it reconvenes after the Deepavali break received total rejection by the bn MPs except for Billy Abit, a five-term MP for Hulu Rajang and vice-president of Parti Rakyat Sarawak.

Malaysiakini reported that Billy Abit Jol is the sole Barisan Nasional MP to have signed the petition urging the prime minister to prioritise the debate on the Internal Security Act when Parliament reconvenes on Wednesday. Malaysiakini full report here.

The petition signed by 85 MPs - 81 from Pakatan Rakyat, three independents and one from BN - was delivered to Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi’s office yesterday morning.

On my earlier posting These ISA Detainees Are Not Forgotten, I mentioned that "Can we count on them, I doubt it" proves that I am right. MCA and Gerakan, as usual can only blow hot air at their general assemblies and conferences but cannot stand up to umno taiko status and so ever willing to bow to their demand.

Here is the recap of what I wrote earlier.

MCA said they won't drop the ISA issue and at MCA’s 55th annual general assembly MCA adopted a resolution urging the Government to review the Internal Security Act
while at Gerakan’s 37th national delegates conference, Gerakan passed the resolution calling for the repeal of the ISA.

Can we count on them, I doubt it. We the rakyat must voice out loud and clear to the government that the ISA must GO. The final option, if all calls fall on deaf ears, is to vote them out totally in the next general election.

Can we believe MCA and Gerakan are able to practice what they preach? They failed to sign the simple ISA petition after all their big talks about it, demonstrate that they can never ever work and fight for the rakyat but a running dog to umno!

The petition to debate ISA was, if I understand correctly - to REPEAL the ISA.

MCA wants to REVIEW the ISA.

I don't know what Gerakan wants.

2 very different things Repeal vs Review.

Nobody can bully whoever to either repeal or review anything. Everybody is entitled to democratically think and stand up for what they lawfully want. I think you are not a democratic person as you want to bulldoze over those who do not agree with repeal ISA.

Its entirely up to Dewan Rakyat to pass the law.

Hope you publish my comment.

TQ

Oh... Please read, dear anonymous...

The petition is to make the house DEBATE about whether the ISA should be reviewed, repealed and whether the ISA is indeed outdated...

i) pls at least offer a nickname t your post.
ii) the petition asks for a DISCUSSION on the ISA; repeal or not, we'll see the outcome. this too MCA&MIC&all BN dogs under UMNO (all of them; not a single party still in BN is not free from the clutches of UMNO because of crumbs...in the forms of leftover projects, bits of crumbs...[pathetic, really]) are not willing to take up.
iii) ask your own consituents; do they want to at least DISCUSS the ISA?? brainstorm, whatever you call it.
iv) you are representing your constituents; and most importantly, your own conscience. seek deeper dear YBs...go deeper. see past those crumbs, those project$$$. for once in your career, do something FOR the people. you've got enough$$$ i am sure all these years.

I am bemused at Malaysian Politics and the way your government treats its sons and daughters...very sad indeed. I had a lot of Malaysian frens when I was at U and it seems like most of them are planning their return to Melbourne...for good. I never queried their decisions but these political stories emerging from Malaysia kind of bolstered my suspicion that they didn't receieve fair treatment in their homeland...You got to be serious about these so called groups MCA, Gerakan and MIC...these people will not last one minute from where I come from. And yes our economy has worsen and it doesn't look too bright. I hope UMNO is reading the world news because I don't think Malaysia's economy is solid enough to avoid the global meltdown.
