There Are Still Some Good People In Gerakan

In any party there are bound to have good and the not so good members and we usually see that the good people are seldom at the top hierarchy especially the component parties of Barisan National.

Not being a member of any political party but always supportive of the oppositions, I see there is no way the component parties of BN can really change from what it is, even though they are shouting out now against umno style of governing. We know it is all hot air, talk only but when comes to action all will be quiet like a mouse.

Malaysiakini has this report;

Gerakan seeks to be a louder conscience for BN

Gerakan has often been called the ‘conscience of Barisan Nasional’ and as its 21st national delegates conference draws to a close, the party appears to be finding its own conscience.

Several delegates told Malaysiakini that during the closed door debates had been a weekend of introspection as the party wades through uncharted waters. We must be the 'bad son', an opposition within the BN itself.

As per the report, they look very courages, wanting to act and change even if they are seen as an opposition within BN. We will be able to see very soon whether they will walk the talk in this last session of Parliament sitting.

Any way, today I am talking about some good people within Gerakan, particularly one that had caught my attention after reading his blog.

He is Dr Hsu Dar Ren and he titles his blog Dr. Hsu's Forum.

In his own words,

I am an ordinary person living an ordinary life. I work as a medical doctor, running a family clinic although i am trained in occupational medicine and safety.

I believe in the good of the world. That good value always triumphs over bad, that good guys always win against the bad, that truth will always prevail over lies, that the world can be a bright, good place to live in for all of us.

I believe that all men are born equal and whatever injustice, whatever unfairness should be done away.

You can read his full biodata here.

He was elected into the Central Committee in the just concluded Gerakan 21st national delegates conference.

His first article after being elected is titled "Release RPK and Hindraf 5 immediately !"

Abstract from his posting.

I ask the government to IMMEDIATELY release RPK and the Hindraf 5, and take steps to repeal the ISA in the immediate future....

I am even against the suggestion that ISA be reviewed so that they can be used to target the terrorists only. There is no need to review, just repeal it in toto. If needed be, we can enact a common law to make terrorism a crime but any terrorist arrested must be given chance to go through a proper trial like any other criminals– no more detention WITHOUT trial. Even suspected terrorists are human, and cannot be subjected to inhuman treatment and subjected to mental torture.

Read his full article here.

After reading all his articles, you can feel that he is the type of leader that we need. Sincere, honest and a responsible person. He is a lone voice so far, as I commented in his posting and his reply is
Richard Loh, one man indeed cannot make much difference, so all of us need to voice out in whatever forum we attend, and tell our friends, and spread the words.

By doing so, we can influence more and more people and create a people’s movements to repeal whatever that is not good for the people.

He is bold to speak up within the party and are ready to face any consequences. In his many articles he is critical of the party and recommended several solutions to transform the party. As I mentioned above, top leaders are usually the not so good type and whether they will listen to their grassroots to revive their party or for their own personal gain, we will have to wait and see.

In my personal opinion, Gerakan must have more top leaders such as Dr. Hsu to lead the party and turn it from the present demise state to become a party love by the people. I for one would consider supporting Gerakan if they can really change not only for the party but change of guards as well.

Dr Hsu is a good person...

But can Dr Hsu, as a member of 20+-person-CWC be able to push the one and only Gerakan Dewan Rakyat backbencher to submit a motion to repeal ISA in parliament?

I thank you for your write up.

Believe me, there are many good Gerakan people around. I have mentioned many times that these people came in for our ideology of a fair and equal society.

I will try to do my best, and as you have mentioned, I may not be able to make a difference, but at least i can tell myself and my children that I have given it a try at the end of the day.

It's been a long time since Dr Tan Chee Khoon passed away. Gerakan might as well have been buried along with the good doctor - because, quite frankly, apart from a few decent individuals who have emerged from its ranks (Toh Kin Woon, for example, and Chee Khoon's son) I can't understand why ANYBODY would bother joining Gerakan or even feel a twinge of sorrow if it vanished completely from the earth. Truth be told, Koh Tsu Koon's corrupt and morally crippled leadership has put Gerakan in the same basket as MIC.
